Subject: Perennial gardening
Hi Janet,
I'm the store manager for the Burlington Garden Center in Burlington, WI. I have had the opportunity to hear you speak a couple times and have enjoyed your practical knowledge and enthusiasm.
I am contacting you now for some insight into a trend that we are observing in our area. It seems that perennial sales for us and other retailers in our corner of Wisconsin have seen a steady decline. My thoughts turn to marketing strategies this spring to increase sales in this area, but first we need to understand the reason for the decline.
I know that you specialize in perennial gardens and am wondering if you have any thoughts as to why this is happening. Working with your clients may give you additional insights. Here are some of the reasons that we have come up with:
1 - customers are finally realizing that perennials are work! 2 - customers love the flowers but don't know how to use them in their gardens (to acheive 8 months of color :))6 3 - the popularity of Proven Winner's annual line offers customers season-long color that they are looking for with not much work (except watering and replanting every spring!)
Please give it some thought and share your thoughts on this topic. I really appreciate your time and insight.
Tracy Hankwitz
